AFL Cairns Women Stand Up Against Domestic Violence Round
This Saturday, 19th May AFL Cairns Women in conjunction with AFL Cape York Eagles FC are using the Women’s Football Fixtures at the Buchan Street facility as the vehicle to raise community awareness and start the conversation about the need to Stand Up against Domestic & Family Violence with key messaging Not Now, Not Ever in Queensland.
Through football, the Cairns Football Community will come together and show unity in standing up against such a prevalent issue – Family & Domestic Violence.
The Stand Up Against Domestic Violence Fixtures, we hope to make it clear to anyone that has experienced or going through domestic or family violence, support and guidance is available to those who need it.
AFL Cape York will collect Donations for ENTRY from Players, Officials and Supporters. All donations will be given to a local Organisation that supports victims of Domestic & Family Violence. In 2017, we raised over $500.00 for Ruth’s Women’s Shelter Cairns Inc. Ruth’s Women’s Shelter is a not for profit organization that provides secure crisis accommodation ensuring optimum safety, guidance and support to women and children escaping Domestic Violence and Family Violence. Every dollar helps!

At 01:20pm – AFL Cape York will encourage ALL Teams as well as any supporters at the venue – to come together and be a part of our Stand Up Against DV Community Photo on the playing arena. The Community Photo symbolising the unity in making a Stand Against Domestic & Family Violence.
The Eagles Football Club will be running a Canteen throughout the day with AFL Cape York will also have a Jumping Castle, Face Painting and Sausage Sizzle.
