AFL Cairns is partnering with Beyond Blue and Headspace, two of Australia’s leading mental health charities, to launch a new Mental Health themed round in 2023.
Mental Health Round will be held on the 8th of July in Round 11 of the Senior and Women’s Fixture.
Both charities will have activations at the games in this round, raising funds and awareness to support those struggling with mental health conditions. Money raised during Mental Health Round will go to support Mental Health Services in Cairns and around Australia.
Round 11 is set to be a blockbuster weekend of footy, as the Cairns Saints host post Douglas. The two sides played two games decided by less than a goal in 2022, before the Crocs got the best of the Saints in the Preliminary Final. The Cairns City Lions will host South Cairns, with the Manunda Hawks to host Centrals Trinity Beach at Cazalys Stadium.
AFL Cairns Football Operations Manager Ben Carbis said, “We are excited to have two fantastic charities supporting the inaugural Mental Health Round, Beyond Blue and Headspace. These partnerships are extremely important in providing support to the League and wider community, so we are looking forward to working together in 2023 and beyond”.
“We know a lot of people in our football community have had some tough times in the past few years, and it’s important for us to show our support.”
