To All Volunteers,
This weekend, Round 8 of the 2016 Toyota AFL Premiership Season, the AFL will recognise the outstanding contribution of our AFL Volunteers in conjunction with ‘National Volunteer Week’, (May 9-15, 2016) an annual celebration acknowledging the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers.
Every season over 120,000 volunteers dedicate their time to service Australian Football at all levels nationwide and, amongst other things, assist in running 5500 matches every weekend and 4500 Auskick sessions from all corners of our country.
On behalf of the AFL Commission and Executive, I would like to acknowledge your dedication, passion and loyalty as a trusted AFL volunteer. We know you don’t volunteer in search of recognition, praise or reward but to help your local community club/league. This is at the heart of the essence of our game.
The AFL continues to maintain a strong strategic focus on community football and participation and we are committed to supporting the recruitment and recognition of our loyal AFL volunteers.
Quite simply your selfless generosity ensures participants are able to play our game each weekend across the nation at all levels, and for that we thank you. Because behind every spectacular moment in our great game is you. You make the game.
Yours sincerely,
Gillon McLachlan
Chief Executive Officer, Australian Football League
