How many Clubs play in the AFL Cairns Competition?
AFL Cairns Women’s competition has six competing Clubs. Centrals Trinity Beach and Cairns City Lions are located on the Northern Beaches. North Cairns, Cairns Saints and Manunda Hawks are all located in Suburban Cairns. Whilst South Cairns are located Southside of Cairns at Bentley Park.
In the girls youth age group Port Douglas and Pyramid Power also have teams.
How do I find a Club?
When is the Season played?
The season is played from late March through to September with a regular home & away season of 14 matches and a finals series.
What age can you play Women’s Football?
The minimum age that a female player can play in an AFLQ or Affiliate League senior women’s competition is they must be turning 17 years of age in the year of competition.
As a pathway AFL Cairns Juniors has a Youth Girls competition for under 14 and under 18 girls.

How many players in a Women’s team?
16 Players on field and six on the bench.

Representative Programs
In 2020 there was no representative football. Typically in a Women’s season AFL Cairns hosts the Cairns Post North v South Women’s match which is a curtain raiser for the Senior Allstar Match. Clubs nominate players and the two teams are selected by Region.
The NQ Championships in Townsville are hosted in November and the Cairns Women’s Representative team gets the opportunity to play against Mackay & Townsville. This team is selected at the end of the home & away season by Club nomination and selection panel.
