2025 AFL Cairns Fixture Release
AFL Cairns was thrilled to announce its 2025 Seniors Season Fixture in a launch at Whiskey & Wine – Crystalbrook Flynn on the beautiful Cairns Esplanade this morning, reinforcing our Footy in Paradise position.
The 2025 season will kick off on April 12, highlighted by a semi-final rematch between rivals Cairns City Lions and Port Douglas at the newly lit ITEC Group Oval. The Manunda Hawks kick off their season under a new coaching structure taking on Centrals Trinity Beach, the team they beat to notch up their first win in over 800 days in 2024, while in the Chemist Warehouse Women’s Competition, the former Hawks skipper will line up against her old side to start the season. Reigning premiers in the Senior Men’s competition, South Cairns, will unfurl their premiership flag against the Cairns Saints at Fretwell Park to launch their season, as they pursue back-to-back flags.
AFL Cairns Football Operations Manager, Brad Channon, highlighted some of the fantastic talent as well as an increase in community connection and activations that will occur throughout the 2025 season.
“The 2025 season is set to be a massive season in both the Seniors and Chemist Warehouse Women’s Competition. All clubs have worked extremely diligently to secure talent from all over Australia, including from the SANFL, TSL, QAFL, NTFL and other regional leagues around the country.
This season we are excited to continue to use our vehicle of football to increase the connection with our community.
2025 will see six themed rounds including, Legacy Round, Indigenous Round, Community Umpiring Week, Mental Health Round, Pride Round and Cause for Celebration. All themed rounds play an important role in our season calendar and highlight some of the many wonderful aspects of community sport. It is something that I am proud of, and something that I feel we do very well in establishing community connections in various ways, whether that is through charitable connections, or other match day activations.
The Genesis Health and Fitness All Stars v Indigenous South Pacific All Stars is back for another season. This is one of the most significant dates on our calendar. With changes to AFL Queensland’s representative structure, this is potentially the only opportunity our athletes here in Cairns will get to play representative footy, I am excited to see what the squads and teams look like over the next few months,” Channon said.
Grill’d Division 3 will also be back this year with the fixture to be released in due course.
The 2025 Finals Series will kick off across two venues with the Chemist Warehouse Women’s to be held at Cazalys Stadium on Friday 5 September and Division 3 to be played at an alternative venue. Senior and Development Semi-Finals will be held on Saturday 6 September at Cazalys. The 2025 AFL Cairns Grand Final will be held on 20 September at Cazalys Stadium.
