Local female footballers receive a boost
Female footballers from the North Cairns Australian Football and Sporting Club will step out with confidence this season, thanks to the 2021 Toyota Good for Footy Gear Grants Program.
The Club’s women’s team is one of 100 female community football teams nationally, and one of 22 teams from Queensland to receive funding through the 2021 Toyota Good for Footy Gear Grants Program for uniforms that have been designed specifically for females.
Held annually, the Toyota Good for Footy Gear Grants Program provides eligible female football teams across Australia with up to $1,600 in funding for new jumpers and shorts to support the ongoing growth of female football.
The Toyota Good for Footy Gear Grants Program is just one of the many ways in which Toyota supports football at all levels, with other initiatives including the annual Toyota Good for Footy Raffle, the recently launched Toyota Suggestion Box and the Toyota Good for Footy Round, the first ever dedicated round that was recognised simultaneously across both men’s and women’s elite competitions last weekend.
AFL Executive General Manager of Customer and Commercial Kylie Rogers said Toyota’s unwavering support for grassroots football across the country has been vital in ensuring more Australians can enjoy the game.
“I would like to thank our Premier Partner, Toyota, whose enduring support of the AFL, from the grassroots to the elite game, continues to positively impact the football community,” Ms Rogers said.
“The rapid growth of female football experienced across the country over the last five years has been significant, so we’re thrilled Toyota’s Good for Footy Gear Grants program can support the delivery of female specific uniforms so that more women and girls feel confident playing our game.”
Toyota Australia Chief Marketing Officer, John Pappas, said Toyota’s Good for Footy Gear Grants Program would enhance the resources available to community football clubs with the goal of inspiring more females to be involved in the game.
“We’re delighted to welcome the return of the Toyota Good for Footy Gear Grants Program in 2021, which we hope will encourage even more women and girls to get involved at the grassroots level so that we can ensure the women’s game continues to not only grow, but thrive.”
Toyota Ambassador and Richmond AFLW captain Katie Brennan said the Toyota Good for Footy Gear Grants Program was incredibly important.
“The impact the Toyota Good for Footy Gear Grants Program has had within community football is incredible,” Brennan said.
“I can remember running around as a young girl playing football in over-sized men’s jumpers, so it’s fantastic for this initiative to continue in 2021 and support the AFLW stars of tomorrow.”
