How many Clubs play in the AFL Cairns Competition?

AFL Cairns has seven Senior Clubs in Far North Queensland and Pyramid Power have a Reserves grade team. Port Douglas is the most Northern team in Queensland, Centrals Trinity Beach and Cairns City Lions are located on the Northern Beaches. North Cairns, Cairns Saints and Manunda Hawks are all located in Suburban Cairns. Whilst South Cairns are located Southside of Cairns. Pyramid Power are based at Gordonvale.

When is the Season played?

The season is played from late March through to September with a regular home & away season of 19 matches and a finals series.

What age can you play Senior or Women’s Football?

No male player can play in an AFLQ or Affiliate League senior competition unless they have turned 15 years of age.

The minimum age that a female player can play in an AFLQ or Affiliate League senior women’s competition is they must be turning 17 years of age in the year of competition.

How do you Register if you are a Player, Volunteer or Match Day Official?

How much does it cost to get into a Match?

  • Free for Children 16 and under and aged Pensioners.
  •  $6.00 Admission

Finals Admission

  • Free for Children 16 and under and aged Pensioners.
  • $10.00 Admission

Representative Programs

The Genesis Health & Fitness Allstars Match is played on a general Bye Round. The Allstars team play against the Indigenous/South Pacific team which is made up of players from the competition. This match acts as a platform to select a portion of players for the North Queensland (NQ) team. North Queensland play against South Queensland in a representative program operated by AFL Queensland in various locations; previous matches have been in Cairns, Townsville, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

The Gold Coast SUNS Academy is a junior program for age groups 14 to 18. Selection for this program is done from SUNS try out days and talent identified at Community football in the region.
