It is with great excitement that again in 2016, the AFL Cairns All-Stars will host AFL Cairns Indigenous/South Pacific All Stars on Friday, 29th April 2016, 7pm at Cazalys Stadium.
The All-Stars Representative Fixture will be played over an AFL Cairns General Bye weekend and the 2016 match will be the 3rd instalment of this Representative Fixture with the ledger currently sitting at 1-all. Thus far, both encounters have been terrific matches.
This concept was introduced in 2014, and played in conjunction with Carnivale at Port Douglas, the inaugural match was an absolute spectacle, with the pacey Indigenous South Pacific side almost taking the victory in the closing minutes of the match. While in 2015, it was redemption for the Indigenous/South Pacific side, running over the top of a more fancied Cairns All Stars at Cazalys Stadium to claim their 1st victory of the concept.
The AFL Cairns All-Stars Game plays a pivotal role in assisting selection for the North Queensland team, who will play against South Queensland in July.
AFL Cairns understands the commitment Players & Officials already make to their Clubs on a weekly basis, so as per last year the All-Stars Program will be short and sharp with the intention of having minimal impact on your Clubs over the next fortnight.
Where to from here?
AFL Cairns has requested all Clubs to submit a list of ‘potential’ Players for both Cairns All Stars and Indigenous/South Pacific. This list will assist the selection of both squads. Clubs will submit their lists at the conclusion of their Clubs R3 Matches (either Saturday, 16th or Sunday, 17th April).
Following R3 (this weekend), based on Club Lists provided and AFL Cairns observations in the opening Rounds, AFL Cairns will release a training squad (approx. 30-35) for both teams on Monday, 18th April 2016. These squads will be communicated to Clubs via email, to the selected Players via their 2016 SportingPulse Emails/Phone details and put on AFL Cairns Social Media Platforms (Website & Facebook).
Both Cairns All-Stars and the Indigenous/South Pacific All-Stars will have a training session on Wednesday, 20th April, from 6-7:30pm (next week).

Following R4’s matches (Tuesday, 26th April), AFL Cairns will then release a final 25-man squad for each side. Again, this will be communicated as per above. These Players selected will be required to attend a light training session from 6-7:15pm (venues TBC) Wednesday, 27th April with a team selection dinner to follow in Hawks Bar from 7:30pm.
The game will be the same week, being played on Friday, 29th April 2016 at 7pm – Cazalys Stadium.
Playing on Friday Night (29th April) will allow for ALL Players and Officials involved to still enjoy the long weekend.
Entry to the All-Stars Game will be FREE, so make sure you come along.
More information will continually be updated as it is confirmed.
